The Elfas are Working Hard in the Workshop

With the winter break quickly coming to a close, I'm working feverishly to finish the "renovation" of the craft room into my NEW craft studio!  Doesn't that sound more exciting?!  The Big Clean has wrapped up (whew!) and a fresh coat of paint has finally dried.
Tomorrow is the BiG dAY!  We pick up the Elfa storage order from The Container Store at 10:15 a.m. (yep, we have an appointment)!  My tired, sore fingers are crossed that we'll be able to get everything assembled and ready to reload by Saturday evening.  I'd love to be able to spend the first day of the New Year in my NEW craft studio!  Oooh, goose bumps just ran across my arm...

Hope your New Year is filled with exciting projects and all kinds of craftiness.  All the best to our Paper Made Bakery friends in 2012!

Hugs, Shannon

A New Year's Toast

This My Favorite Things stamp set is a classic for New Year's, in my book.  I wanted to use some items that would make this card stand out, give it some texture and depth, so I gathered sequins and beads and rhinestones -- things you might find on that beautiful cocktail dress you're wearing next weekend to a New Year's party.

The pretty lady needed to be the focal point so I stamped her on Neenah Classic Crest in Solar White and then cut the paper into an oval with a Spellbinders Classic Oval die.  The champagne flute didn't quite make it (I meant to do that), so I stamped the flute again, colored it with Copic markers, cut only the cup portion, put a layer of Glossy Accents over it, and finally adhered it on top of the stamped glass on my oval.  For a little more fun, I added a few tiny white seed beads to represent bubbles!

Piece with multiple images
I colored the lady's hair, skin and shoes with Copics and then added a touch more Glossy Accents to her shoes to make them look like patent leather.  Next I stamped the image onto a piece of Basic Grey patterned paper from their Lauderdale line and cut out just the dress, layering it on top of the dress already on the oval.  I then put a thin line of Tombow wet adhesive onto the hem of her dress and added some shiny black sequins!  So chic!

To put the whole sparkly vignette together onto a sparkly black card, I cut a 4" x 5.25" piece of sparkly hot pink cardstock for the card front and added pieces of a Zva Creative crystal flourish onto the upper and lower corners.  I added one tiny bling onto the lady's hand as a diamond ring!  The oval piece is edged with a bit of ink and then mounted onto a die cut Lacey Oval from Spellbinders.  This piece was mounted to the card front with foam tape for dimension.  As a finishing touch to the card front I stamped "Cheers!" in the lower right corner.
Card's interior

Inside is a simple sentiment and I stamped the lady's upper body and champagne glass again in the lower right as well.

I'll leave you with a simple toast for the new year:
May we live to learn well, and learn to live well
May you live as long as you want
and never want as long as you live

May 2012 bring you lots of crafty happiness!

Not Just Cards...

Lindsay showed us yesterday that you can easily take the wonderful products from our Fresh Baked Kits and mix them up, creating very cool items other than cards.  Well, today Savannah shows us a fantastic altered frame she made with December's Fresh Baked Kit
Using the papers, ribbons and buttons from the kit, she transformed this inexpensive acrylic frame into a cool sticky note pad!  What a terrific hostess gift this would be!  Hey, look closely and you can see how she stamped the Gorgeous Bloom image onto the corner of the pad -- how pretty is that?  Gotta love things that are multifunctional, right?!

Just a few more days of December, and Christmas is just around the corner, so if you're on Facebook, be sure and stop by and LIKE us -- we're very near our goal of 100!  Then, just like Christmas, the gift giving will continue!  Merry Christmas everyone!

Mixin' It Up

Fresh Baked Kits make the grooviest cards, but don't forget that the kit has so many great things inside you'll be able to make cards AND other fun stuff!  Check out the adorable gift tag Lindsay made with December's Fresh Baked Kit:
Wouldn't that look great on a kraft gift bag with pretty tissue paper fluffing out of the top?  The rose/peach ribbon in this month's kit is amazing!  It ties up into beautiful bows.  Lindsay embossed the perimeter of the tag and stitched a pretty little button into the Gorgeous Bloom's center.  Simple elegance!

Did you know...

Bright Idea
I'm so thrilled to have you all stop by, and especially love to read your comments.  I want to respond to everyone -- but wasn't quite sure how to do that "effectively and efficiently".  :-)  Then I read this post on The Idea Room about linking your email (not visible publicly) to your comments.

All you have to do is go into your Blogger Dashboard and find where you can “edit your profile” near the top and click on it. Then find the section “show my email address” and check the box.

Your email will not be visible to other commenters; it will just show up when I click to reply to your comments.  This works for Blogger folks and I'll bet there are easy ways to do this with any blog service (i.e., Wordpress, Typepad, etc.)  With this feature active it allows me, and your other blog friends, to quickly respond to your comments.  Just thought you might like to know...

Three Square

You're clicking away on the Web, checking out your favorite blogs {like this one!} and you happen upon a project that speaks to you.  You have that stamp...and that punch!  "Wait," you say to yourself, "let me get out my December Fresh Baked Kit and whip up a card just like that!"

That's what happened here.  I apologize that I can't remember exactly where I saw my inspiration project (I know it was a layout), but I liked the way the person used offset squares and contrasting patterned paper.  I tried not to be neat and even, but did try to fling in several different "looks"...faux stitching, all kinds of subtle *bling*, and even slapped on a bit of Washi tape.

And this is what makes card making so fun!  It's a little creation you can finish in very little time and get to appreciate the fact that you transformed several bits of paper and some fun tools into a little work of art.  Keep up the good work everyone!  Thanks for stopping by...

Mistletoe Magic

Simplicity can be impressive, can't it?  Yesterday's card by Lindsay really showed how keeping it clean and simple can really add some *punch* to our cards.  Today you'll see how this concept works when Savannah shows you her card I call Mistletoe Magic.
Only three elements on this card front, but your eye is drawn to the focal point immediately.  There's no "white space", yet the simple striped patterned paper from the Honey Cake pad, with its distressed look, helps the simplicity of the green mistletoe branches, the single "thank you" tag, and those *pops* of ruby red rhinestones really sing to you!

Leave some love for Sav here, then check out what she has to say about Paper Made Bakery's December Fresh Baked Kit.  While you're at it, check out our new tab at the top to see all the cards we've made so far with the December Fresh Baked Kit.  There are only a few kits left, so grab some fun and enjoy your creativity over the coming holiday break!

Clean and Simple

Are you familiar with the card making style called Clean and Simple (CAS)?  You'll recognize a CAS card right away, but maybe you just didn't know that there was actually a CAS following.  I like the definition I found on the Stars and Stamps blog:

It’s almost easier to talk about what it isn’t. A CAS card isn’t ornate or froo froo. It doesn’t have a lot going on. A CAS card is the cardmaking equivalent of the “little black dress.” It’s elegant, understated; it might have a bit of sparkle or interesting angles, but with the CAS card or the little black dress less is more.

If you'd like to try your hand at CAS card making, or just see some incredible examples of this style, you might want to check out the weekly card making challenge blog called CAS-ual Fridays.

Today our guest designer Lindsay Amrhein uses Paper Made Bakery's current kit to create a beautiful example of a CAS card.

There's plenty of white space, which allows your eye to be drawn to the Gorgeous Bloom focal point, paper pieced using the Memory Box stamp of that name and patterned paper from My Mind's Eye, both of which are included in the kit.  Lindsay does a great job of creating a CAS card with the fun "ingredients" in December's Fresh Baked Kit -- thank you Lindsay!

Across the Miles

Avocado Arts stamps
Welcome, friends!  Just a quick share's a card I made using an Avocado Arts stamp set and some Jillibean Soup paper I had left from a summer project.  With this chilly, wet weather I was in the mood for something cheerful.  I sent this card to a new friend who lives in northern California, very near my hometown.  I thought it was appropriate -- I love the whimsical feel to the images and cheery flower paper.  I dig some elevation, so this card has several bits of foam tape strategically placed.  Enjoy your Wednesday and thanks for stopping by!

Busy with the Bustle

Real baked goods from Paper Made Bakery
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas and I'm getting ready for Christmas vacation in my "other" life, so I've been busy baking goodies to give my coworkers.  I had 20 plates to assemble and baked a variety of cookies I hadn't tried before -- chocolate with peanut butter chips, toffee bars, pecan butter balls, and cranberry/pistachio shortbread.  I also threw in a little bit of peppermint bark for good measure!  It took some time to get everything baked, assembled, wrapped, and ready to go; tomorrow's the big delivery day! So, thanks for your patience - I'm glad you stopped by.  Enjoy a hot cuppa something & a cookie, on me!

3, 2, 1...

Shimmer and shine
It's time to dust off that sequin gown, grab some confetti, and shout "Happy New Year!"  Well, almost...

The Gorgeous Bloom stamp makes a sparkly, shimmery focal image on this card I made for New Years.  It's one of the stamps included in our December Fresh Baked Kit.  The fine line details on this flower are wiggly and uneven -- perfect for cutting to custom sizes!  You can get several smaller sized blooms from the original stamped image.  I cut out three then crimped and bent the edges for texture and dimension.  Inking the edges with Bisque chalk ink made them pop!  Diamond Stickles was the perfect finishing touch.

The puffy sheer ribbon bow anchored with a Maya Road crystal drop Trinket stick pin adds even more dimension.  I like the texture of the vanilla picot edged ribbon (also part of the kit) along the bottom.  Finally, bits of a pearl and rhinestone flourish add just a touch more elegance.  The cardstock is Stardream Metallics from (and it's on sale this month!)

Our December Fresh Baked Kit is very versatile, not to mention useful for nearly every kind of card you'll need to make during the year.  Get yours today -- while you can!

Spring Cleaning?

Seen in the vicinity...
How is it that one who is thought to be, and feels they are, *organized* can accumulate so much STUFF?!  My creative workspace looks like it was hit by a tornado, but in fact, is undergoing a major facelift.  I started with just one corner (on the sage advice of my friend Sandy) and have managed to finish one wall's worth of reaming out, sorting through (toss or Paper Crafters' Garage Sale) and then restoring order.  This has taken me the entire day -- eeek!  I'd hoped to ask Santa for a few Elfa sections, so I really need to get crackin'!

What's your best advice for organizing your craft space?  Let me know by leaving a comment below and on Friday I'll randomly choose a lucky (organized) person to win a little somethin'-somethin'.

We're working on turning our home into a Christmas wonderland.  The weather has been pretty warm lately, but it's settling into the mid-60's for a while now.  I thought I'd mix up some of the ingredients in our December Fresh Baked Kit and this is what I came up with...
...warm thoughts for your chilly December days
The pretty patterns of the Honey Cake 6 x 6 pad offer lots of cheerfulness to this card.  There are polka dots, stripes, florals and lots more on the 24 double-sided pages in this pack.  The pennants were made with a Marvy punch and they're topped with platinum Stickles.  Those pennants are strung along dreamy Cappuccino baker's twine from The Twinery and it's tied off on a brand new Maya Road vintage button stick pin.
NEW vintage button stick pin
{Note: I experimented with coloring the white pin head with a Copic marker and I got a pretty good result...I love color coordinated embellishments!}  The sentiment stamp is from Hero Arts and I also used the Thank You Script stamp from the Fresh Baked Kit on the inside of the card, along with a small strip of coordinating patterned paper along the left side.  I used a rich, creamy paper (Brockway Deckle Edge from Cut Cardstock) in the center. The rounded corners finish this soft spoken card.  Have a wonderful weekend!
