Challenge -- Accepted!

Welcome! So glad you could join us at this week's Tic Tac Toe Challenge. This week's inspiration board was a challenge for me, but I loved working out how I'd come up with a card to love. Here's the board...

...and here's my card...

I went with the diagonal row: White, FREE (die cut), Hearts. This is a design I will use in my Husband's Six Packs. Would you like to get this anniversary card from your hubby?

This is why I LOVE the Tic Tac Toe Challenge -- it makes me stretch outside my comfort zone and discover that I can make awesome cards with just a little inspiration from my friends! I hope you'll take some inspiration from this week's Tic Tac Toe Challenge and send us a photo of YOUR next awesome card!

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful week!

Into The Night...

Velcome...to another episode of Tic Tac Toe Challenge. I'm your host, Vincent Price, with my latest creation called Into The Night. OK, enough goofiness for one post! I'm sharing my take on this week's inspiration board:

I selected the left column: Animals, Layers, and Sparkle. This card is one of four I created for my Halloween class here in the San Diego area. I love when worlds collide, creatively speaking!

Inspiration...

How many dies did we use here?! The patterned paper, which I happen to think is perfect for this design (and totally accidental) is by Echo Park from their Happy Halloween Collection Kit. The Spooky Trees cutting plate and Stitched Banner Stacklets are from Taylored Expressions. Then there's my oldie but goodie bat punch from Martha Stewart, and last but not least, the sentiment is from a company dear to my heart, Fresh Squeezed Stamps -- Frightfully Delightful. Where's the sparkle you ask? The bats are slathered with black Wink of Stella. Unfortunately, my photos just don't do these little bats justice...

My apologies to fancy bats everywhere! This week's board is chock-a-block with fun elements to try your hand at. You should definitely stop by the Tic Tac Toe Challenge blog and see which row or column speaks to you (perhaps in a vampirey kind of voice?!)

Thanks for stopping by and I'm looking forward to checking out your creation!

Cup Runneth Over

Welcome friends - thanks for joining me today as we launch the newest Tic Tac Toe Challenge and I'm thrilled to be the featured designer! Seriously, this week's challenge "blends" some of my favorite things -- coffee (natch!) & autumn. The inspiration board is filled with elements that make you go hmmmmm...

There were so many possibilities that I was all over the place this week, yet managed to land squarely on two lines. However, I'm going to claim the far right: autumn colors (persimmon), dimension, and rounded corners. I think I can also say I hit the right-to-left diagonal: autumn colors, paper piece, and Free (interactive card). OK, here it is...

The photo above shows the interactive tag pulled up using the heart-shaped splash stick. Below shows the tag hidden under the lid.

Here's how I made that little pull tab:

This is the back side of the paper pieced coffee cup. I made "bumpers" with thin strips of foam tape - the bottom piece keeps the tag from falling too far down, and the two side strips keep the tag in place. The foam tape also gives the cup dimension on the already popped watercolor "notebook page" that's color washed with Stampin' Up! ink in Tangerine Tango and Cajun Craze -- blended to create a persimmon colored glaze.

This card will also be entered into the Fall Coffee Lovers Blog Hop over on the Coffee Loving Cardmaker's blog. I hope everyone will go check out the Tic Tac Toe Challenge and see if you can create a card using some of these challenging elements -- can't wait to see what you make!!

Ooh La La

Bonjour, and welcome to another fabulous Tic Tac Toe Challenge! This week's inspiration board has so many fun elements to explore, so I really enjoyed designing my card using it. Here's the board:

I focused on the left row: acetate, dimension, and gold. However, the center row across (dimension, embellishment and die cut) are also part of my card! I bet you didn't imagine so many elements went into a card...without much effort.

Now, my biggest inspiration for the new technique I tried came from Jennifer McGuire's "stained glass window" cards she made featuring Gina K Designs' new release. I hadn't even heard of heat resistant acetate and I'd never imagined how cool it could make my card! Thank goodness for Amazon Prime and fast shipping :-)

I used a new-to-me stamp and die set from My Favorite Things. I put this adorable Paris-inspired set called Mon Cheri, which I'd been admiring for some time, and Jennifer McGuire's technique together and came up with this:

Since the Eiffel Tower image isn't solid, I used Fossilized Amber and Peeled Paint Distress Oxide Inks to create a colored panel to set beneath the heat embossed tower image I embossed onto the acetate. I didn't realize my gold embossing powder contained glitter, but that just inspired me to get my bling on!

I used a scrap of the Oxide background to create the "Merci" sentiment embellishment, paper pieced the young lady's dress and handbag, then finished it all off with amber bling -- more Autumn in Paris, than springtime in Paris.

Now it's your turn! Which elements inspire you?

Make Mine a Double...

...double espresso, please! I love me some java, a good ol' cuppa joe -- full octane, por favor! And, I'm always grinning when I see my fellow paper crafters creating loads of coffee inspired cards.

So, it's no surprise that I really enjoy the Coffee Loving Cardmakers blog, and love checking out the awesome coffee themed cards and more on their Facebook group, of which I'm a proud member. So, when I saw this week's Tic Tac Toe Challenge inspiration board, I whipped out my caffeine inspired scraps and went to work!

Special Fold, or Fun Fold, cards are my favorites. I just "discovered" the Dutch (Door) Fold card and decided to use that as my starting point.

Diagonal: Special Fold, Oval, and Die Cut

I've been rationing my Doodlebug Design Cream & Sugar leftovers, but decided this card was definitely worth using the last of my favorite papers and stickers! My inspiration was the Diagonal Row -- Special Fold, Oval and Die Cut.

To create the Dutch Door Fold base, I cut an 8.5" x 11" piece of pink cardstock to 8.5" x 9". On the 9" side I scored at 2-1/8", flipped the paper around and scored the other side at 2-1/8" as well. On the 8.5" side I scored at 5-1/2" in between the two previously scored lines only. Then, I scored at 2" just to the long score line and did the same on the opposite side. I cut away the outer rectangular sections left after scoring and here's what the Dutch Door Fold card base looks like...

That half oval at the top is the die cut that hangs over the front flap. I love that we mat and decorate all the flaps (inside and out) with pretty patterned paper! There's plenty of room to write a silly message AND a place inside the top flap, just under the ribbon, to tuck a coffee shop gift card, too!

So, which row inspires YOU this week? Go and check out my Team O design team buddies' inspiration -- they are AMAZing!! Tic Tac Toe Challenge is the most fun you can have with paper, scissors and a cuppa coffee!

Thanks for stopping by!

#10 for a WIN!

Hi there! Welcome to another ├╝ber fun Tic Tac Toe Challenge and this is Week 10 -- can you believe that? That means summer is almost over and we're pushing into autumn. But, I don't mind...I'm ready for the fall/winter holidays!

So, here's this week's inspiration board -- which line should I go for?

Ghouls and goblins (of the cute kind) have been on my mind AND I just got my hands on the brand new Authentique Tricky line, so I decided on the left row: metallic, anything but a card, and green.

I dig how the lighting in this photo came out -- like something magical is swirling about! I wish you could see how sparkly the clear Wink of Stella on this hauntingly handsome owl dude looks! I use Taylored Expressions Tagging Along die set for this "sweet" little treat bag, along with some nice, thick patterned paper from Tricky. The owl is from the brand new Peek A Boo Halloween stamp set from Taylored Expressions, and that wistfully wonderful web is from their new Skinny Mini Halloween Borders.

Wondering where the metallic is? No, it's not the shiny little Three Musketeers bar, but the gold foil star hole reinforcer and the gold metallic ribbon I used to attach the "Whoos Scared?" tag. I also added some googly eyes and Nuvo Crystal Drops in Sunlit Meadow.

Thanks for stopping by! I'm looking forward to seeing your take on this week's inspiration board, so head on over to the Tic Tac Toe Challenge blog.

Back To School

Welcome! So glad you dropped in. As an educator, I'm relishing this last week of summer vacation and thought I'd use that, along with this week's Tic Tac Toe Challenge board, to create a sweet card for a teacher. It's my Team O's turn to inspire you and here's this week's inspiration board:

At first, I focused in on the doily, but then my mind whirled the back-to-school idea around, and I shuffled over to the left row: rectangle, circle (doily), and square.

I picked up a set of adorable mini pennant punches on my recent trip and really wanted to try them out. They were easy to use and I know I'll incorporate more teeny tiny banners in the near future!

Here's the inside of my card. Both sentiments came from a couple of my old Fresh Squeezed Stamps sets -- oldies but goodies!

Be sure to click on over to the Tic Tac Toe Challenge blog and see even more inspiration from my Team O pals. Link your card to this week's challenge and see if you become a Designer's Choice or Team Pick - then grab a badge!

Secret Agents Wanted...

What did the crafter say to her tape runner? Bond, just bond! Thank goodness my adhesives were checked and cleared for maximum security because I would't want this little cactus taking a tumble -- ouch!

I'm playing along in this week's Tic Tac Toe Challenge and it's week 7 -- TTTC007. Get the Bond reference above?! Seriously, I'm having so much fun using these inspiration boards to create a new card every week just for me. Well, someone else will eventually get it, but my joy comes from creating it. Here's the Tic Tac Toe board that inspired me and lots of others:

I love that after I pick a row and get my thoughts and ideas all sorted out, my supplies lined up in front of me, and start stamping, cutting, gluing, etc., I discover that my finished card incorporates several other elements from the inspiration board, as well. This week I used the center row across: washi tape, Distress Ink, and floral.

This was my first official use of Distress Oxide inks and I had a blast! Now this sample is very low-key and likely not very exciting to all you Tim Holtz fans, but I loved how buttery those inks moved on my paper! I spritzed a little water and then got all dramatic and tried some Perfect Pearls Mists in Sunflower Sparkle. This photo doesn't do justice to the pretty golden splotches, but trust me, it's cool.

I visited my hometown last week and stopped in at Paper Garden Boutique in Sacramento, where my girlfriend and I snatched up several rolls of washi tape. You just never know when you're going to need some washi tape with cactus on it, right? WEEELLLLL, here ya' go! What's that new storybook called, "If You Give a Girl Some Washi..."? A little is good, but more is better!

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you'll step outside your comfort zone and give this Tic Tac Toe Challenge a try this week. Also, share the challenge with your crafty friends and neighbors, too! They're going to love having a fun, simple reason to create a handmade card this week :-)

In The Mix for Week 6

Hi there -- I'm buzzing by to share my creation for this week's Tic Tac Toe Challenge and I'm pleased as punch to be this week's featured designer!

Once again, the inspiration board offered SO many fun elements to try:

While I didn't include all the elements this week, somehow I managed to get several rows covered. Let's say the bottom row is likely the most obvious -- honey, plaid, woodgrain. However, I also captured the right row down with square, wrap, woodgrain. And, if we stretch it just a bit, I'd say I also hit the top row across with shadow, layers, square. Hold the phone! I also used the left row down with shadow, marker, honey -- whoo hoo!! If only I had something fuzzy...

The layout for this card was inspired by Sheri Gilson over at Verve Stamps. I've been itching to use the Build-a-Bee and Bee-you-tiful Sentiments stamp sets by Honey Bee Stamps, and this was the perfect opportunity!

I've been having a blast checking out everyone's entries in these weekly challenges. It really seems like folks are having fun with them. I hope you'll stretch your creativity and give it a try this week. I'll be looking for yours!

9 for 5

I'm playing along with this week's NEW Tic Tac Toe Challenge -- and you should too! Here's the inspiration board for Week 5:

I'm so enamored with Echo Park's Summer Bliss line that I had to use my leftovers to create this card because I was going for it -- ALL nine elements!

Mr. Balloon has a bit of sheer pink ribbon around his neck, all set for a summertime birthday party. I really enjoyed the challenge of using all nine elements, and it wasn't too difficult to accomplish.

I hope you'll skip on over to the Tic Tac Toe Challenge and give this one a try! Thanks for stopping by...

Summer Vacay or Staycay?

Being off work for a bit each summer usually gives me just enough time to travel somewhere and rush to get done a few of those tasks I've put off the rest of the year. This year I didn't plan any vacations, so I'm really feeling like I have more time, which is a very strange feeling, indeed!

However, it's been wonderful for my creative spirit, as I've had lots of extra time in my craft room, as well as to pore over the loads of emails from manufacturers showcasing their new holiday goodies. I even got to pop into a LSS Friday evening and just hang out with other crafty folks, which was an inspiring treat!

I met a nice lady at The Stamp Addict. She's from Sacramento, but is working here in San Diego for a couple weeks. She was working on some cards using Graphic 45's Cafe Parisian and I was totally inspired. She fussy cut the designs just right for my taste and used some extra embellishments, but not too many. I'm starting to sound a little like Goldilocks here! I made five cards using Cafe Parisian and her inspiration -- here are a couple:

Would anyone else want to make these cards?! I hope so because I'm putting together a workshop very soon, so watch our CLASSES tab above for dates, times, and locations.

I also got a sneak peek at Simple Stories brand new Christmas line called Very MerryWhile I can't show you any photos of the line just yet, I'll describe it as rustic farmhouse meets hometown holidays with a touch of brush script thrown in for a modern touch. I'm creating a new Christmas pocket album workshop this fall using Very Merry and I'll keep you posted in the coming weeks.

Don't forget to join me over at the Tic Tac Toe Challenge blog. That's where I'll be for my weekly dose of outstanding inspiration!

June Bloom

Howdy! Here we are at another NEW Tic Tac Toe Challenge -- Week 4! It's true, time does fly when you're having fun and I'm having so much fun using the TTTC boards for inspiration.

Here's this week's challenge board:

So many different ways to be inspired and kick start your creativity!

The board's middle row gave inspiration for this card using patterned paper (or DSP) for the floral embellishment that sits atop the embossed background layer. I used Authentique's Sassy papers, which are filled with pretty, homey patterns along with vintage sassy gals. The die cut is by Stephanie Ackerman for Sizzix and it's layered with more Sassy paper and a chipboard cut to add dimension. This card's got some rustic, down-home charm!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope your Fourth of July holiday is a bLaSt! Be safe and be kind...

TTTC03...Yippee!

It's time for another Tic Tac Toe Challenge and I'm all in! Here's this week's board and our inspiration:

I chose the left diagonal - blue, twine, rectangle - for my simple little card.

This little guy went through some morphs as I played with all the elements on the inspiration board. I bet you can see where this one might have gone the blue, one layer, yellow way, but I'd stamped on a panel and thought, "if I mount this onto a card front, will that mean it's not one layer?" So, I erred on the side of caution and simply added a light blue mat and a bit of twine. Voila!

Did you hear that TTTC has added another day to the challenge week? That's right - now you'll have a bit more time to design, create and link up YOUR awesome project. I can't wait to see what you come up with...

Thanks for stopping by!

Tic Tac WHOA!

Yay! It's Thursday and that means a brand new Tic Tac Toe Challenge is here! This week is Team O's turn to bring you some inspiration for creating your next AWEsome card

There are just so many possibilities when you consider these inspiration boards. Here's my take on the right row (wood, yellow, embellishment [Glossy Accents on each banner) and the left diagonal row (masculine, gray, embellishment):

This card is also inspired by my fellow TTTC design team member Jeanie Stark's joy fold card -- check hers out HERE...it's SO adorable!

I broke out my Concord & 9th Birdie Banners clear stamp set, Copic markers, Bazzill cardstock and some patterned papers from Summer Bliss by Echo Park. You'll see more from that collection in our Paper Made Bakery June card making workshop/kit!

So, wanna give this week's challenge board a try?! Head on over to the Tic Tac Toe Challenge blog and see the entire Team O's projects and find the button to link up your own creation!

Guys & Dolls

Here's wishing all you mommas a Happy Mother's Day! Whether you have human or furry kids, you deserve a big hug and something pretty to enjoy today.

And since we're thinking about celebrating, we should probably start thinking about the guys in our lives, as Father's Day isn't far off. Or, you might have a masculine birthday coming up...or know a guy that just needs a smile put on his mug! With these occasions in mind, I'm sharing a few of our May Card Making Workshop projects coming to the San Diego area in the next couple weeks.

Below is one of my faves -- when I saw this new clear stamp set from Art Impressions at CHA, I knew I had to have it! How my fishermen do you have in your life?!

And here's one using the new Spring Grumplings set from Taylored Expressions that gave me a chuckle (and there are several different hilarious sentiments to choose from)...

Finally, I pulled out all the stops with Authentique's new manly line called Dapper to put together this one for all the dudes behind the wheel...

I'm still lovin' the Nuvo Crystal Drops, too! Remember, if you're in the San Diego area (or maybe coming for a visit), be sure to check our CLASSES tab in the menu above to see about joining us for an afternoon of crafty fun.

Thanks for stopping by!
