Seems Sketchy To Me

Merry Christmas! Wishing you all the merriest of holidays...

I thought I'd share a few cards I made as class samples. My theme is using sketches to inspire card making. My group of enthusiastic "students" in Fallbrook appreciate a little motivation, and checking out sketches is how I'm often influenced.

There are lots of great places to find card sketches. I've used some for this month's class from My Favorite Things' Wednesday Stamp Club, where they offer free sketches every week.

I purchased the Victoria Park line from Lily Bee Design's going-out-of-business sale (awesome deal), so another motivation for me was to use as many of the papers as possible. Perhaps the gals will want to use their cards as a gift set for a friend or family member?

And this last card was inspired by a sketch from The Deconstructed Sketch...

Thanks to all the folks that create sketches - we raise our glass to you! I'd love to find out your favorite online source of card sketches, so leave a comment below to share. I've got a little blog candy squirreled away, and will randomly choose a commenter on Sunday, December 28 at 9 a.m. PST.

Here's to 2015 being another fabulous year of creative card making!

Holiday Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

If Elvis and Starbucks were around at the same time, I think his lyrics would actually be -- "I'll have a brew, brew Christmas without you..."

Welcome to the Holiday Coffee Lovers Blog Hop! I'm so thrilled to be a part of this fun, fun event and I want to thank Amy Tsuruta for orchestrating it. Who better to be Queen of the Coffee Lovers, right?!

I have a multipurpose coffee themed project to share. I've used the Bo Bunny Christmas line called Candy Cane Lane for several projects this season, so I thought why not keep that going? I love the colors and the retro feel to it, but I wanted a card that was a little feminine for a girlfriend's gift.

I used Lawn Fawn's Love You A Latte stamp set and embossed the cup and swirly, steamy "happy holidays" onto vellum card stock to create an overlay for the patterned paper notched banner. A bit of soft pink chevron ribbon from May Arts completes the banner. But wait...here's a surprise!

This little banner is really a bookmark! I used Basic Grey's small magnetic snaps, slit the fold on the top of the card, and slipped the bookmark into it. The bookmark keeps safe the pretty vignette going on beneath it -- a vellum card stock embossed panel below a paper doily, and then a San Diego destination-themed Starbucks gift card inside a small glassine bag.

It's the gift that clearly keeps on giving! It's not a fancy-schmancy over-the-top card, but I know someone who's going to love it!

Now I have a little gift for YOU, my coffee loving friends. I enjoyed this treat at The Making Place's birthday party last week and LOVED it! Cheryl, the lovely owner, shared the recipe, which she got from Serena Thompson's book The Farm Chicks Christmas

Coffee Latte Punch

1/3 cup instant coffee powder
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 gallon 2% milk (8 cups)
1 cup half-and-half
1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream

Heat 1 cup of water to boiling in a medium saucepan; add the instant coffee powder and sugar, then stir until dissolved. Set aside until cool. Pour the coffee mixture into a large container and stir in the milk. Cover and refrigerate overnight or at least 4 hours.

Thirty minutes before serving, pour the coffee mixture into a large punch bowl. Stir in the half-and-half. Using a scoop, add the ice cream to the punch bowl and let sit until most of the ice cream has melted - approximately 25 minutes. Gently whisk the ice cream into the coffee mixture until incorporated and serve.

And if you've been patient enough to get to this point, I've got a bit o' blog candy for you - (if your comment doesn't link to you, leave contact info). THREE random, lucky folks will enjoy a cuppa' joe on me -- I've got three Starbucks gift cards to give away! Be sure to leave your comment before midnight on Sunday, December 14.

Thank you for stopping by and may all your holiday wishes come true...be safe, be happy, be caffeinated!

Let's talk turkey

I know it's been a while since we last chatted, so I wanted to share a little crafty project for Thanksgiving...gobble, gobble!

At my house it's going to be a day spent with turkeys and these guys are "stuffed" with NFL M&Ms, can you believe it? Turkey and football -- what better combination?!

This Amy Robinson design is from the Silhouette Design Store. She's got several other holiday buddies to cut and fill!

Here's to an enjoyable Thanksgiving filled with lots of reasons to be thankful -- gobble 'til you wobble, people!

WCMD...Hurrah!

So I took a day off last week. Yep, right in the middle of the 8-5 work week. I took a card making class (instead of teaching one) and had a blast! Peggy Jo Ackley, of Pink Ink stamps, taught her colored pencil techniques.

Love this one...

I didn't veer from her samples so I could work on the techniques.

Did I mention I picked up a few of her wood mounted, red rubber beauties?

I plan to expand my love of colored pencils and old school coloring!

I finished up the cards (plus an additional kit I purchased on said Ferris Beuller's Day Off) on World Card Making Day. Yep, how apropos!

Hope your WCMD was a blast!

Best Friends

I'm on a roll!

I'm teaching at The Making Place AGAIN on Saturday, October 18 at 10:00 a.m. and this is what we're making...

Best Friends waterfall folio/album -- make this with me!!

I know. Seriously, is this not the most fabulous vintagey paper line you've seen in eons?! I loved the waterfall folio Ginger Ropp, design team member for Graphic 45, shared so I just had to turn lots of that gorgeous Graphic 45 "Raining Cats & Dogs" paper and embellishments into an interactive album like hers!

Interior of folio -- waterfall pages on right and fun pocket with tags on left

Flip the pages and fill with fur baby photos...

The colors in this line are just magical and the old fashioned images are divine! I love all the dogs, cats and pretty ladies among the old timey flowers and prints! My photos have a vintage cast to them, but I know you'll love the poppy red, lagoon blue, and striking black as much as I do.

The album is surprisingly uncomplicated to make, so later on you can create lots of different folios using a variety of papers and goodies.  This one is perfect for all of us "pet moms" with fur babies. It can easily be fashioned for dog or cat lovers.

Join us for a morning full of crafty fun at The Making Place in Escondido, CA.  Call the store and reserve your spot -- (760) 739-8605 -- the sooner, the better!

Boxes, Bags & Tags, Oh My!

I've got the perfect class to get you in the holiday mood!  Now if you're like me, you love the holidays...the gifts, the cards, the baking.  But, I like to keep it simple and, well, awesome!

With that said, I'm teaching a new class at The Making Place on Saturday, October 11 at 11:00 a.m.  It's called "Boxes, Bags & Tag, Oh My!" and we're going to make a nice variety of gift giving packages that will make your recipients squeal with delight, and will keep you sanely crafting without a lot of stress.  All the projects can be modified for ANY occasion, too!
...at The Making Place, Escondido, CA

We'll decorate a simple gift bag that will just need a swath of tissue paper stuffed into it and you'll be able to hand over those baked goodies, hand knitted scarf or any other little gift with pride and joy!

Then there's the super simple and super useful pillow box!  I'll show you how to use that new We R Memory Keeper's Pillow Box Punch Board.  You'll whip out a pillow box for EVERYTHING!  Perfect "wrapping" for a gift card, a little candy or whatnot.

Finally, this one is a favorite because it's easy to make, fun to receive and packs a lot of WOW!  This candy bar slider package comes complete with a little chocolately goodness...
(1) Closed                                                                   (2) Open -- what a surprise!

Space is limited, so be sure to call the shop and reserve your spot ASAP.  You'll just need a basic tool kit -- everything else is included!

Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

Happy International Coffee Day!!  What's not to love about a steaming cup of joe?! I'm so happy to participate in today's Coffee Lover's Blog Hop along with about a gazillion other crafty peeps who share a "warm affection" for the caffeinated karma coffee provides.

Here's my ode to joe -- an Art Impressions favorite of mine -- Cathy Caffeine! I stamped her on a To Go cup-shaped card front made on my Silhouette Cameo and just smudged the edges with some Distress Inks in Shabby Shutters and Tea Dye to give the cup a well loved look.  Then I had to sparkle up the HOT JAVA logo with some Stickles.

Caution: the beverage you're about to enjoy is HOT...thank you very much! I love coffee, I prefer it simple and hot. While I completely enjoy trying specialties from trendy coffee shops, I'm happy with a simple brew (and even use my Keurig frequently - with Dunkin Donuts or Timothy's German Chocolate Cake pods)  :-)

There are loads of giveaways today and check out these awesome sponsors:

Be sure and check out all the fabulous coffee themed creations on the Coffee Lover's Blog Hop...thanks Chaitali and Amy!

Learn How - More Girlfriends

These are a favorite around my crafty cirlces -- the Art Impressions "girls" simply make us smile, and maybe giggle or even chuckle out loud.

On Saturday, September 20 at 2:00 p.m. I've got another great selection of the gals in a variety of all occasion handmade cards. Here are some of the cards we'll make -- there's a bonus card we'll make as well, but...sssshhhh...it's top secret!
Beach babes with their toes in the sand and a drink in their hand!

smartphones + girlfriends = good times

Everything's better with pink frosting and sprinkles!

All levels of paper crafters are welcome. We'll get back to our childhood love of coloring, so bring your favorite tools to color with (pencils, Copics, markers, etc.) We'll also try our hand at a few cool techniques!

I'm teaching this class at The Stamp Addict, so be sure to call (619) 667-5060 right away to reserve your spot. I'm hoping to see all of my "usual suspects" over in La Mesa, so get your name on the list before space fills up!

Garden of Gratitude

Hello friends!  I've been digging up lots of fun with a Darcie's Heart & Home stamp set called Chin Up Buttercup and SRM Stickers' We've Got Your Border - Thank You. There's some gardening going on, but my hands only got dirty with ink!

Oops, this sample is missing its Tin Pin!

I apologize for the inferior photos ('cuz these guys are pretty cute, if I do say so myself).  We'll make these and more at The Stamp Addict on Saturday, July 5 at 10:00 a.m. and there are only TWO spots left!  So if you're in the San Diego/La Mesa area this weekend, stop by and join us!  Call (619) 667-5060 to reserve your spot.

Have a safe and Happy Fourth of July!!

In the good ol' summertime

Yep, it's almost officially summer...yay!  This is going to be a fabulous summer and I'm ready for it to begin.  So, to kick things off the crafty way, I've got some cards inspired by the impending solstice.  These are samples from a class I'm teaching at the end of June.

Most of these cards' simple beginnings came from my giddy love for the patterned paper I've incorporated.  They're just so whimsical and fun, and they sparked summer memories for me.

This card reminds me of our camping trips to the Sierras when we were kids.  We started out with tents and quickly graduated to trailers (whew!)  These Lawn Fawn stamps and dies really make me happy.  I colored the car black cherry because that's the color of my current little Prius...mixing old and new.  I grew up in the 70's, so wacky, wild colors were "in".  Love the critters on this paper!

Lawn Fawn and Jillibean Soup

This super simple card below (I squealed when I saw this paper) makes me think of the Lucy and Desi movie The Long, Long Trailer.  Can't you just picture Ethel and Lucy popping their heads out of these vintage campers?!

Jillibean Soup, Fresh Squeezed Stamps, Lawn Fawn, Silhouette

Thanks for stopping by and I'll have more to share soon.  I hope you're looking forward to a wonderful summer -- it's on its way!

A Toast To Friends

Tossing in another Girlfriends card for the Art Impressions' challenge. These ladies make me smile, and I especially love the sentiments in this set.  I guess it's not one of AI's newer sets, but like wine, the older the better!

I stamped the sentiment on cork -- thought it was appropriate -- and gave the girls some "tiny bubbles" (aka sequins) to add excitement!  Hope your weekend involves time with good friends and good cheer!

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Trying new things -- I like to do that. At the recent Rubber Stamp Convention in Carson, CA I picked up a couple Art Impressions Girlfriends/BFFs stamps because they made me think about the long-lasting relationships I have with some of my own girlfriends and BFFs. It really is all about having fun!

I decided to try the Magic Pencil technique because I love to color...have done since forever!  I really enjoyed using my colored pencils and Gamsol (odorless mineral spirits) to create a smooth, blended look. Still perfecting this technique, but I had lots of fun giving it a go!

Barista BFFs

Did you notice the strip of corrugated coffee cup sleeve I used behind the sentiment?  I thought it was a nice touch. When I checked out the Art Impressions blog I noticed they had a Girlfriends weekly challenge, so I decided to join in the fun!

I really had a good time with these ladies -- you may see more of them here on the blog and, perhaps, in a card making class near you!

Have a great day and thanks for stopping in...

Go West & Celebrate!

How I spent my Saturday? Creating a super fun project with Suzy West at The Making Place!  I met lots of fun, crafty ladies whom I hope to see again soon. Here are some photos of the project itself:

Here are a couple of the elements -- fun pockets and tags galore!

I was thrilled to nearly finish in class and even happier that I completed the project at home in the afternoon, including using almost all of the stickers to make three birthday cards, too!

Had to throw in one of my fave FSS sets...Inside Scoop: Birthday

The end...

Hope to see you at my card making class at The Making Place -- Saturday, March 29 for My Guy: Cards for Your Favorite Men. Call the store to register as space is limited (760) 739-8605. Thanks for stopping by today -- have a fabulous week!
