Portobello Road Birdhouse

Hi friends!  It's Ashley from Heart Hugs Designs here to share a project with you today.  It's not secret that I LOVE this Portobello Road Kit and the fun shabby chic look it gives.  When I first saw this kit, I automatically thought that it would make a great house.

I went to my local craft store and found this cute little birdhouse for just $1 and thought it would be great for this kit.  I think that a birdhouse really speaks to the shabby chic style.  I decided to use some scraps and rip them for a rustic mosaic look.  I used Mod Podge to apply the paper then painted over it with Glitter Mod Podge to give it a glittery finish.

Here's a close up of the front of the house.  I added the butterfly and button even though it obscures the opening a bit.  I'm going to keep this inside so no birds will be entering.  A great tip for buttons is to look at the front and back.  Sometimes, the button is more interesting on the back like this one.
Here's one of the angles from the back.  I used a strong clear adhesive to adhere the ribbon.  I used red line tape on the roof and then stuck the black paper on and trimmed around it.  I find it MUCH easier than trying to use either liquid glue or trying to measure the panels.
Here's the other angle from the back.  You can see how the white edges of the ripped papers adds to the shabby look.  I ripped these paper by hand to ensure it looked how I wanted.  I also ripped them dry because I wanted more roughness.
Have a great day, friends!
